This cartoon was once banned in Germany, as it was thought that the cats' military helmets insulted German national dignity. (imdb)

Those crazy Americans. While the traumas of World War 1 were keeping Europe in a state of shock and conflict it would take another bloodbath to end, Disney's animators decided to turn the calamity into a joyride of a slapstick cartoon. The comedy is as brilliant as it's violent, and the clichés of WW1 are well represented, with machine guns, trenches, and German helmets. Anyone who'd lost a son, friend, limb or mind in the war must have been outraged by this, but today it's just awesome.
