A good scary bit at the beginning, utterly dull thereafter

A trite, heavy-handed comedy about an angel sent from heaven to help a bishop and his wife build a cathedral at Christmas-time. One of the worst best picture oscar nominees that I have seen. Comes down to the angel doing little tricks that baffle and motivate the rest of the cast of characters. Rinse and repeat until you get to the expected happy ending. It's a Wonderful Life did a similar story much better one year before this bore saw the light of day.

Sweet-natured Christmas fantasy. One of Hollywood's many postwar fantasies full of angels and ghosts and one of the best with solid casting and a sentimental but well-written script.

Some might find this to have a morally interesting plot, but I found Cary Grant's angel to just be an asshole most of the time.

Mild, slight, yet entertaining. I was alienated from the Bishop himself, though, and that's the ultimate weakness of the film.

A charming little film that tells a story, delivers a message, and leaves you feeling warm and cozy after it has finished.

Engaging performances by all -- and fun to see children from _It's a Wonderful Life_, Karolyn Grimes and Bobby Anderson, appearing together.
