The movie is, to put it kindly, Hollywood hokum. It may be accurate, but much of it feels phony, constructed to yield the maximum number of tears from well-to-do ticket buyers. It actually starts fairly well, but frays into shameful hogwash as it goes along, especially as it introduces more and more elements that feel like results of the most officious screenplay workshop, like the precious youngster who increasingly takes center stage.

Accomplished filmmaking craft blown on a cloying, saccharine screenplay. How did this film manage to make a true story so predictable? Manipulative and condescending in equal parts... Not even Sandra Bullock's Oscar-worthy performance can save cliche'd lines like "I'm not changing his life, he's changing mine."

This is a nice, heart-warming story. Maybe a little too sweet in some spots, but cute nonetheless. However, what does it say about me that for most of the movie I was totally hoping for and dreading that something awful would happen?

Emotional and Captivating drama. The film has an amazing balance between all genres, it brings out many various different emotions out of the viewer. The plot is based on the true life story of Michael Oher, who was drafted in the NFL just this past summer. As previously stated, the film moves by various differing emotional states, its an "up and down" ride, from a laugh, to an emotional scene, the movie has it all, and John Lee Hancock is able to present it very well on screen. One of the more overrated movies I've seen. Very formulaic and cheesy. There were enjoyable parts, which is why I gave it a somewhat-favorable rating, but definitely not as good as I expected. Bullock won the Oscar for a few good one-liners, not for a great performance.

And so the message here for the black youth of America: you better hope that a orange grizzly mama adopts you and teaches you how to play football, or else you're going to wind up dead in a gang fight. Inspiring.

Apparently I forgot to rate this.. Seem to remember I loved it, but now I'm seeing all these mid-range ratings I guess I'll have to watch it again. Just putting this non-ranking up to say one thing: Bullock's acting isn't oscar good? What the hell have you guys been smoking. Sometimes this community baffles me. Don't get me wrong, I love you guys even though I know you only through your mini-reviews, but right now it seems like everyone here grew a second, retarded, brain.

Listen, Michael Oher's story is one that needed to be heard. +1 for the line : Who'd have thunk we'd have a black son, before we knew our first democrat?

I will be honest, I have never seen this movie in one sitting, just all the various parts from the dozen or so times I have walked in and the wife has been watching it. But it seemed at least well made.

One fine impulse and consistent series of good deeds can make a life worth living or at least it was shown that way. From the real story, that was behind this picture, one cannot laugh. The movie however was constantly trying to persuade that everybody in it were either relatives to angels as good as they get, or not worthy mentioning. Dialogs and scenes were so sweet and simple that once you became replete with it, it just didn't make any more sense. All in all it is inspiring idea poorly done.
