Good acting performances in a strong story. The movie is as grey as the war it depicts, which is also one of it's weaknesses.

Great acting and a strong story. You'll find yourself really rooting for DDL by the end and Watson's performance is spot on. The events that were supposed to be surrounding the film came off rather uninhibited, but that is really the only weak area. There is just something romantic about watching DDL as a boxer, and I wish they would have explored that aspect more. Overall, a very solid film.

My least favorite of the 3 Sheridan/DDL collaborations but it is still pretty great. I'm really interested in the religious conflict in Ireland though so I am a biased watcher. DDL immerses his body and soul once again to create one of the most natural looking boxers ever.

Well produced drama can't quite seem to pull together its three rather disparate story threads, but the individual elements work very well, espeically the emotional and moving romance between Day-Lewis and Watson (who are both superb). Cox is also reliably solid in support, and as always, Sheridan manages to tell his very Irish story with a great feel for his characters and locations.
