Summary: Deep in the Romanian forest, a team of scientists stumbles upon the ruins of a 13th century Abbey. On further inspection, they make a startling discovery -- the Abbey is built over the entrance to a giant underground cave system. Local biologists believe the cave could be home to an undiscovered eco-system, so they hire a group of American cave-explorers to help them investigate its depths. (Sony)
Respect the cave! Date the cave! Buy the cave dinner and take the cave out to a movie! Call the cave the next morning and tell the cave you have a great time! Don't forget the cave's birthday! Never talk bad about the cave's mother! etc.
Alot better than some of the movies I've seen from this genre recently. The characters weren't entirely hatable, the dialogue wasn't the usual cliches, the settings were fairly nice. Sure, the creatures could have been better and the ending seemed a bit tacked-on, but overall, I didn't think it was that bad of a movie. I can definitely say that I've seen a lot worse.
"The Cave" is not a good film. It isn't a scary movie, it isn't very thrilling, and it has very little redeeming value. You won't care about the characters, you won't feel like you are actually in a cave, and you will likely end up more bored than anything else. If there is one plus that comes from the ending, it's that the film didn't make enough money to warrant a sequel. If you really need a cave film, watch "The Descent" instead, as there is at least a reason to see it: It isn't a bad movie.
I've seen recently several flicks with the same output than this. Cave, water, unknown company. This version was the worst one. In better hands it could be a decent B-movie.
Not as bad as I first remembered, and while its slow to get going once we get a glimpse of the monsters hidden beneath the caves it gets quite exciting. So past the dull cave dwelling scenes it becomes a Horror/Action film with plenty to keep you interested as one by one the cave expedition crew are picked off. Eddie Cibrian is good as the lead character as is Lena Headey as our leading lady. Overall it has its flaws but nothing worth worrying about as its an enjoyable film worth having a look.
