Two years later, and it's aged pretty well, with likable characters, incredibly tense sequences and an intelligent take on the zombie genre.

Tons of cheap jump-scares and uses every zombie/infection movie cliche in the book, and it also lacks any shots of a giant "Left 4 Dead" style horde of infected which was kind of a let down. Still, Olyphant is pretty good and there's plenty of messy violence once things get ticking. Doesn't do anything you haven't seen before, but it does it all pretty well I guess.

This movie starts off well with the premise of some people in a small town that start to act strange. Unfortunately it ends up just being another zombie movie with nothing that really stands out. There are not many characters that one can route for in this movie. Overall this movie disappoints.

Eisner's remake of a lesser-known George Romero horror show from 1973, a therefore more defensible remake than those of the Dead series, for which we can hope that Romero (credited as executive producer) received decent compensation. The no-nonsense line of action is mostly routine, but the scene in the car wash, with the assailants obscured by shampoo suds and rotating brushes, rises slightly above.

Decent enough. The 90 minute format unfortunately obstructs the film from having shit load of scenes where peoples sanity is questioned. Both within the main protagonist group and among those crazy people who somehow seem benefit from the situation. The deputy sidekick is an interesting character until said 90 minute format kind of ruins him after an otherwise excellent car wash scene. Also: Really weird seeing Olyphant turning more and more into Billy Bob Thornton as the movie progresses.

I was not impressed with this film, except with the photography which was very good. The acting was also good, especially Timothy Olyphant. The rest of the movie though was a let down. The scares were calculated, and the film seemed to be lacking any real tension. Story seemed predictable, you can tell what is going to happen to each of the group members. This is not a bad horror movie, but it was a let down to me, especially after the positive reviews from top critics. A rental at best.

Pretty good. Good performances, especially from Timothy Olyphant. Went on a little longer than I expected; that's not necessarily a bad thing, it just seemed like it was starting to wrap up and then some more complications got thrown into the mix. Honestly, I could have done without the last five seconds, as I feel that device has been overused and actually weakens the experience.

Tries hard to be a "realistic" zombie movie but ends up using crazy conspiracy theories like FEMA death camps. The screenplay itself is cliched and predictable and every scene having to have some kind of a jump scare just gets boring very quickly.

Shot like an art film with stark & creepy wide shots but directed like an action movie with horror elements, the rewards are mostly atmospheric and it comes off a bit too tasteful. I liked it somehow but missed the urgency and energy of the Romero film it's based on.
