In The Daffy Doc, Robert Clampett and company embrace a noticeably sterile approximation of asylum-ready cartoon insanity, preferring gags built on stupidity and audience insults to genuinely energetic and witty jokes and images. Daffy Duck has since emerged as the finest Merrie Melodies/Looney Tunes character creation but boy has he had some off-days in getting there.
