We find Svankmajer going through his ordinary routine of bizarre stop-motion creation, enhancing his quirky production this time around with a palatable aura of socio-political commentary. Strange and endearing.

Like a lot of other films from the region, one feels that some sort of guidebook to Eastern European political history is required to really grasp the meaning and significance. Still, it was an intriguing and humorous work.
