An interesting movie with an excellent and very believable performance by Crispin Glover. The constant snow scenery makes things a bit "blurry", but a very interesting true story.

Potentially interesting, but marred by historical inaccuracy, hammy acting, and slow pace. The desaturated look adds a chill to the scenery but hinders the audience's connection with the characters.

i got a whole ten minutes into the movie before saying out loud to an empty room "so when do they eat each other?", after all that's pretty much the only thing anybody watching this will think of after turning it on. it still had a pretty decent 1800's vibe to it and i thoroughly dig glover.

I think I would've enjoyed this more if the dialogue and characters were more interesting. The only character the filmmakers seemed to put any thought into was Crispin Glover's, who always plays a good "creepy guy" role and here is no exception. But, in the end, it's just a boring, well-shot period drama.

On the outside, it's a slow-paced, history-bending period piece starring a handful of minor actors who've made the rounds on the straight-to-DVD western scene. On the inside, it's a fairly decent yarn with above-average cinematography (the seemingly un-changing winter forest really gives you the feeling the party is getting nowhere), some under-the-top cannibalism, and a strong performance from Glover (who probably likes himself a good thigh every now and then). Recommended to fans of Mr. G.
