Summary: The tumultuous political landscape of Paris in 1968 is the backdrop as three young cineastes are drawn together through their passion for film. Matthew, an American exchange student, discovers in French twins Theo and Isabelle a relationship unlike anything he has ever experienced or will ever encounter again -- and he longs to be a part of it. (Fox Searchlight)
A handful of shortcomings doesn't stall The Dreamers from what it is - A bold, beautiful, zany, and sexually charged motion picture that leaves the viewer flabbergasted, either way. It is not everyday that we come across a movie with a beauty which is this poetic and the narration, such lyrical. Easily among Bertolucci's best.
If the hedonistic, incestuous nudism of the '60s doesn't draw you in, then the de trop shots of Eva Green's nipples and vagina should be interesting enough.
bernardo bertolucci was amazing in direction, and eva green and both boys were so good in acting their roles. the hints to classic films were outrageous.
Masturbatory nonsense. Despicable characters do despicable things, and Bertolucci overindulges in every way possible. From the constant name dropping and film clips to the needlessly explicit sex, this lacks a degree of subtlety that could help it more effectively capture the political and social unrest.
