Summary: Frank Perry is an institutionalized convict twelve years into a life sentence without parole. When his estranged daughter falls ill, he is determined he make peace with her before it's too late. He develops an ingenious escape plan, and recruits a dysfunctional band of escapists - misfits with a mutual dislike for one other but united by their desire to escape their hell hole of an existence. Much of the action takes place within the tunnels, sewers and underground rivers of subterranean London. (imdb)
Mediocore film to begin with, but the ending twist ruins it completely. I liked dark and gritty cinematography, and Brian Cox is good in this, but plot doesn't live up to that level.
A passable escape yarn let down by weak characterisation and a focus on grittiness at the expense of good storytelling. While the plot itself isn't bad and the twist is a nice touch, Cooper is redundant, Cox and Lewis are wasted, and it's left to Cunningham, Fiennes and Jorge (in a standout performance) to carry the movie.
Grimy prison break drama with a host of british thesps chewing the scenary. Original flash back construction disguises the twist well but the baddie characters were overplayed caricatures.
The movie had good originality when it came to the ending...but also was let down by the terribly confusing ending. However it wasn't your average run of the mill prison escape drama and I respect the fact that you feel not only the pain, violence and despair but also the happiness, joy and hope.
