what a weird movie. It was hard to rate. This movie had good parts but some awful parts. Kline was pretty good.

What could otherwise be riddled with cliches and contrivances oddly enough seems organic due mostly to a first rate performance from Kline, and a elevated performance from Dano. Quirky, strange, and original, but unfortunately lacking an affirmed vision.

Kline's performance is a stand-out, but Ames's script never seems quite sure of the story it wants to tell; the end result is pompous and meandering, and too convinced that it can be seen as a quirky indie flick just because Dano's lead has some unusual proclivities.
