It feels like a half-baked, low-budget but completely enjoyable film. Sellers is great (again) while the plot (although a bit clumsy at times) never (or almost never...) lets him down. It's good - and it's the swan song of the best comedian in the world, a farce-like but partly precise prophecy of his end. Just like he is spitting on the Devil.

If it weren't a comedy and just low budget adventure it'd be pretty good; but there aren't nearly enough jokes and those there are aren't nearly funny enough. I find it ironic that Hugh Hefner produced this as it came to parallel his own finals years now. If you REALLY like Sellers and REALLY like Fu Manchu styled films (both of which I do) you'll get something out of this. Otherwise just watch either Dr. Phibes movies to see what this should have been.

An embarrassing end for Peter Sellers. I suppose you could look at it as exposing the stench of the old Sax Rohmer books, but that would be a stretch.
