Almost lasts for (what feels like) five years and is way too downbeat in the last half. Still it's a nice change to see this kind of vulnerability in a mainstream rom-com and Segel, Pratt and Ifans make it worth the watch.

The premise is compelling, and Segel and Blunt make it easy to sympathize. The humor works for the most part, but every once in a while it goes a little too raunchy or slapstick, creating an imbalance of tone. The drama is what works the best.

I liked it, it had laughs even though I felt like it drug on far too long. At some point, I found myself no longer endeared by the quirks of the two leads, but rather repelled. The charm of their relationship wore off on me a lot quicker than I had expected/hoped it would. Luckily, a good supporting cast and a very strong (although slightly cop-out-ish) ending saved it for me. Coming down to personal preference, though, I prefer my rom-coms to be more balanced. This felt too jokey, too comedic.

2012 has had some sweet rom-com's.

It's got some funny parts and some incredibly funny parts, but I hate this new trend for 'epic romantic comedy's'. The Five-Year Engagement really did seem Five Years long, so long in fact, that when some of the jokes paid off at the end, it was so long since they were set up that I didn't find them funny any more. So long. So long.

Cute, sweet, funny, and with a supporting cast who nearly outshone the leads. Jason Segel has a nice little niche to work in.

Simple things like sweaters, animal hunting and psychology are taken to funny lengths. My two favourite supporting roles were definitely Chris Pratt and Randall Park. But it failed to justify why it would take so long to get married. I mean, take a trip to Vegas and have a quick ceremony. And since a career boost seems to be an interruption, plan the even during the holidays. With that runtime, those two hours felt like five years. Segel and Blunt share lovely chemistry at least.

Stomps all over the line between simplicity and complexity, making an overlong film with situations that have some apparent depth to them but are ultimately just as shallow as any other romantic comedy. Still, the important question is whether it's funny, and for the most part it is.

I feel sad for giving this such a low score, because I love Jason Segel and Emily Blunt... but this movie was just WAY too long and it wasn't really that funny either. In fact, this movie bordered on being depressing for most of the film. The only reason this movie wasn't rated in the 40's or 50's is that it ended pretty well. It ended in a cute and fun way and made up for the movie's behemoth length and scenes that seemed to drag on forever. Pretty disappointing though.

Funny romcom. There are some really hilarious bits in this. Well worth a look.

Although it hits the right spots, it looses its momentum half-way. The ending makes up for it (a little bit).

Very uneven, a good bit bloated, but alternatively grounded or hilarious most of the time.

If you were to describe how this movie's plot is laid out, you'd realize how poorly done it is. I was laughing up until 50 minutes in, then it became very uninteresting and meandering. Every romantic comedy cliche rears its ugly head here with so many shifts in "tone" that it loses any meaning after the third time it happens. Every joke in the beginning was brought up later on just to squeeze any comedy juice left of its rinds. Just too much back and forth.

I like Segel and Blunt and most actors in this, but it's just sorta middling.

A good romantic comedy, which wasnt cheesy. The only thing I that was negative about this movie was its length. The chemistry shared between Jason Segel and Emily Blunt was good. Overall a nice entertaining movie.

I have grown to dislike Segel’s “acting” as much as I adore Blunt’s charm and beauty. So they cancel each other out. The rest of the movie is bland, way too long and filled with clichés. I did enjoy Chris Pratt though.

They stretch what should have been a 90 minute movie in a little over 2 hours and you really start to feel it in the third act. It's still an enjoyable film though, and side characters like Chris Pratt and Brian Posehn are great. I wish they would have done more with Kevin Hart though.

Violet and Tom are smart, likable, and funny, so it is good to see them get to happily-ever-after. It%u2019s just a rough ride, and the usual feel-good conclusion doesn%u2019t feel good enough to me, a testimony to how realistic many of the plot elements are. It%u2019s as if by being a little more real than your standard romantic comedy, the movie throws off the formula just enough to make it feel not quite as good. For 95% of its run-time, this film is a pretty smart, ambitious, often serious romantic comedy with great chemistry between the two leads and a slew of brilliant supporting performances (falling in love with Alison Brie). The ending does a 180 and goes into this bouncy, carefree, unrealistic romcom thing that's exactly why people don't like the genre anymore. But I still like the rest of it.

Boring, overlong, ineffectual... and kind of sexist. Couple of laughs here and there, not really worth the time (2 hours+ running time).

This is the proper way to create a romantic comedy. Right on par with Forgetting Sarah Marshall. I was rather surprised to see so much negative stuff surrounding this film, I thought this one was knocked out of the park. The story and drama had such a wide span while the comedy remained perfect and at times calling for border line side splitting laughter. Huge Jason Segel fan here and I am also a fan of Chris Pratt's delivery. Everyone did really well.

Segel and Blunt do a wonderful job together. I always like seeing Chris Pratt in anything because I liked Everwood a lot. I thought this was quite enjoyable; the laughs worked, the romance worked. They were a really nice couple that you could feel for. They gelled. There were a couple tone shifts here and there that took me out of it for a bit but in the end, this is one of the better rom-coms I've seen.

As much as I liked the cast, I couldn't help but almost be annoyed at the runtime. I'm no romcom lover, and it doesn't help that the movie's overall message is a shitty one. I loved the guy who made awful sweaters, though.

UNDER-RATED. An inferior yet worthy follow-up to Forgetting Sarah Marshal.

Fairly innocuous romcom that has a few perceptive things to say about commitment but ends up churning out the formula yet again. Blunt is wasted in mainstream roles, Segal's cuddly bear routine is starting to grate, and only Pratt and Brie have any real spark.

[Unrated Edition] - EmilyB is obviously the quality in this, but also AlisonB and CPratt are enjoyable as support. There's a good movie in here somewhere, but the script should've been much tighter. Surprisingly funny and heartfelt if a little too long.

Stretched a bit too long but still manages to be consistently funny while also dealing with relationship themes in such an authentic and intelligent manner.

Funny, Segel and Blunt have chemistry. Chris Pratt is always funny. Overall I liked it.

I don't know why I keep watching these sorts of movies. This was ridiculously overlong and dull.

I thought this was very funny but I absolutely hated the shift in tone for the last five or so minutes of the movie.

I really enjoyed this. Seemed "real" and is consistently funny. Loved the cameos by who's who of comedy.

If you didn't think timing was essential to comedy then watch this film. Horrendous.
