a badly directed and poorly acted, very creepy movie about alien abductions. split screens with `real footage` strengthens the sensation that everything described is real, but kinda stupid because you find yourself watching the camera footage instead of the movie itself.. circular shot of the owl was very interesting (whats with the owl, we still dont know)

interesting direction and great use of splitting the screen, the problem is that the proposed "actual footage" more or less takes away from what should have been the best abduction movie since "fire in the sky"

Pretty good build-up. But there is no payoff at all. The attempt of being non-fiction is an interesting experiment, but ends up being quite stupid.

Of course it isn't real, don't get so worked up about that aspect. In fact, if you follow the films own advice found in its closing moments ("decide for yourself," to paraphrase), keeping this (completely obvious) unreality in mind you might find the reality of the situation even more harrowing.

The concept of the film was intriguing, regardless of whether the supposed real footage was real or faked! With that being said the film itself had some major drawbacks. The insertion of the question as to how the husband died was totally unnecessary and severely damaged the credibility of Abbey Tyler. If you're objective is to cross the river via horseback don't go and shoot your horse midstream! I'm just sayin!

Awful, awful film that tries to build suspense by taking a found footage angle. Unfortunately the filmmaker can't leave well-enough alone and keeps beating the audience over the head with the credibility of his tale, by alternately showing us "real footage" and "re-enactments" starring actors like Will Patton and Milla Jovavich. What we're left with is a lot of SyFy style jump scenes and no real scares.

A movie about alien abduction that ends up being nothing more than a montage of therapy sessions, repressed memory mumbo jumbo and the irritating splicing of "real stock footage" into the dramaticized scenes (in effect making you watch the same boring scene twice). Nothing here that could even hold a candle to a good episode of Unsolved Mysteries, which also had more authentic acting and higher production values.

By now it's pretty obvious that the so called "real footage" is in fact played by B-actors and the movie itself is a Big fraud! Charlotte Milchard and english B-actor plays the role of the so called "REAL" abigial and does her acting pretty well and it made me kinnda frightened but after i found out it all was made up and no real whatsoever this movie is just a waste of time. The only good thing was the real footage and when it's fake this movie just sux! The fact that they try sooo hard to make

I was amazed at this film. I never like documentary style films, but this one was great. The real footage they used seemed distracting until further on in the film, when the events were so dramatic that they would not be believable without real footage. It did seem convenience that the tapes distorted at the most crucial points but there have been successful tests of magnetic hover engines, and magnetism that strong would probably distort a tape. And Sumerian? That's interesting.

"The Fourth Kind" deserves to be a better movie, as I was totally into the concept. The story, however, is so spliced together from bits and pieces of characters and plot points that never mesh or become fleshed out. The director disguises this with a failed documentary approach intertwined with a Hollywood reenactment. Despite some tense moments, this isn't a complete movie, and it fails to prey on viewers with its proposed foundation of realism.

While you are watching this, if you are to believe what they say - "based on true events" - you can enjoy this with a feeling of "wow, really?". After the movie is done, and 5 mins of Googling later when you realize that the whole thing was a big lie, you kick yourself.

The Fourth Kind is not worth a watch, especially if you've heard any of the "hoax" talk before you watch it (and you have if you've read this review). I don't think that matters though, because even if you're fooled, you'll want to learn more, and you'll discover the truth anyway, which will likely cause you to have an unfavorable opinion of this movie. There's just nothing here apart from being a "true" story to keep you engaged.
