Decent enough with a good principal cast. Michael Caine is pretty awesome in this but I can't shake the feeling that the Russians would run out of spies with the amount of times they have to kill each other in this movie.

Okay back in the day but dated nowadays. Nice to see Pierce Brosnan as a villain though

While it is not a cinematic masterpiece or anything, The Fourth protocol certainly is thrilling and entertaining. The performances are nothing to write home about, but the lead actors do their respective routines quite nicely and Brosnan in particular makes a convincing "bad guy" (although he's really just portraying someone doing his job, I guess.) Notable for its remarkably accurate depiction of the workings of an atomic bomb (so I hear).

Frederick Forsyth had a couple of good books in him then quickly turned into the English version of Tom Clancy. This film is a reflection of how simultaneously paranoid and bland that style generally is. I've nothing really to say about the movie because of how forgettable it is, but the book stuck in my mind because of how much Forsyth hates Ken Livingstone. The Fourth Protocol is basically an elaborate attack on him.
