Takacs seems bent on presenting a "feel-good" fright fable here, even supplying a series of gratuitous "happy" endings that do little to juice a film saddled with slow pacing, flat dialogue, uncharismatic actors, and sub-Freddy surrealism. The pic's wittiest bit doesn't arrive until after a seemingly endless end-credit crawl, when few viewers will likely be around to appreciate it.
