Truly great, hilarious film. Rex Harrison is fantastic. My only problem is it seems to end too many times.

Rex Harrison and Gene Tierney have a magnificent dynamic that blends well with the film's surreal quality. The plot has some weak points but the exploration of death and female identity is very good and fills in the story gaps. Excellent imagery and engaging characters drive the film.

Rex Harrison is awesome as the Captain! Definitely not your typical romance, this mixes ghost story and comedy, until finally transitioning into a melodrama with actual depth. Should play well in a double bill with 'Fight Club'.

The scenes between Tierney and Harrison are absolutely wonderful. Romantic, poetic, tinged with a little sadness. Herrmann's score really adds to the otherworldly mood, too. My only gripe is that the more comedic scenes don't really work, but there aren't that many of them so it's not a big issue. The ending is sentimental, but it fits perfectly and wouldn't work any other way.

Pleasant enough at times, with fun performances from Harrison and Sanders, the film as a whole fails to really resonate on a romantic or relational level. Tierney is beautiful, as usual, but fails to connect or really carry the movie as the lead. And this movie illustrates well the difficulty of pulling off afterlife movies, as the plot turns pretty hokey by the end.

For those in doubt, I am very much in love with Gene Tierney, the most beautiful woman in the world (still pictures do her no justice, she must be seen in motion).
I would also like to mention that I find Rex Harrison very attractive too. Partly because he is somewhat atypical romantic lead.
Add to this George Sanders and young Natalie Wood, and we have very good cast indeed, in this highly pleasant ghostly romance.

I enjoyed it for the first half but it really loses steam by the halfway mark. Luckily Gene Tierney is possibly the most attractive woman I've ever seen so I always had something nice to look at. Rex Harrison instantly annoyed me and that feeling never went away throughout the film. The ending is awful and made me roll my eyes. Nothing too special but not terrible.

Good enough for what it is, but I didn't get very excited by the premise. It's not unoriginal or hackneyed, I just... didn't get that into it. Also, Rex Harrison annoyed the heck out of me. I hate being in this situation where I have so little to say, but the film just didn't make much of an impression. It's an okay movie, I guess. I wouldn't bother with it again, although I might watch a few minutes if I was flipping channels.

Gene Tierney is the most human-looking angel I have ever seen. The film begins slow and apprehensively, but the characters really develop ('though not particularly realistically) into interesting people; their interaction makes for addictive and encompassing viewing. All of George Sanders and Rex Harrison's characters seem like Gods amidst men. There really is something shamelessly larger than life about this film, and it goes beyond time and ghosts. 'though it retains its quaint charm.

Delightful romantic comedy that, with Rex Harrison's final words, reduces me to tears every time. Beautifully shot and designed, creates a world you just want to climb into; the whole cast contributes, but Tierney and Harrison may have found the best roles of their careers in this movie.
