Tough to deny it's a bit overrated, but that certainly isn't to say it's anywhere close to bad. In fact, it's a solid little mystery/thriller with a great performance from Noomi Rapace, even if some of the mysteries are solved via somewhat cinematically dull hacking and internet searches. Some "whoa now!" violence too.
Undoubtedly the best that modern crime drama has to offer. "Dragon Tattoo" is nigh on perfect in every way, although the acting is more memorable than the story, with the only downside being that the average viewer will struggle to sit through it.
W porownaniu do ksiazki bardzo przecietny, wyraznie slabszy od pierwowzoru. Kto jednak nie ma czasu albo ochoty na lekture, moze obejrzec, film broni sie kryminalna intryga.
A compelling mystery thriller which takes the time to really tell a story and develop its characters enough to engage with them without them losing depth and mystique. Didn't need to be remade.
I really liked the original title more, which better sets you up for what to expect. Either way though, it's a really solid thriller and mystery, although the conclusion kind of comes out of nowhere and doesn't really arrive from deduction as one might expect from a mystery. But Lisbeth and Mikael are great (both the characters and the acting), but this film needs to be seen with the sequels for a lot of it to be explained. Score is not a grade.
This is a great, outstanding, exciting film. The performances are great, the story increasingly gets better as the plot unfolds. There are some dark scenes and subject matter in this film but I would definitely highly recommend it.
Despite a seemingly appropriate length for this story, it still feels like a hugely rushed narrative, with very little characterisation on flimsy acting, no space for mood setting, ordinary cinematography, and a real corny and sensationalistic score.
Noomi Rapace and the excellent soundtrack saved it for me, to be honest. As a big fan of the books, this was a good-but-not-great adaptation. Lots of things were not tied into the narrative very well and seemed very *random* (like Bjurman and the whole Wennerstrom thing), but overall, it served. Hopefully the Fincher adaptation will turn out to be a little more inspired than this one... but I at least enjoyed revisiting the story while I watched it, even if the adaptation wasn't ideal.
Better than the American version and that is about what I can say about it. Why the hell have the chosen to cast a somewhat handsome man as Blomquist when he is described in the books as gorgeous?
Slick thriller with an ugly misogynist streak. The over-the-top retribution for sexual violence does not justify the relish with which it is portrayed. The more I think about this film, the less I like it.
Engaging movie, great balance between story and character development. Works very well as a thriller, but achieves much more. The ending is a bit on the long side.
I am sure it loses something with translation but I found it engrossing at times, horrific at others and left me looking forward to the Fincher version.
Yawn. Over-long, over-complex, over-predictable, run of the mill thriller. The theme of sadism, abuse and girl power rescues it from being complete dross but it has little to really make it stand out as a piece of cinema.
