A minor film, but a near perfect one.

Directors like Bergman, Bresson or Losey make so perfectly clear films. They're like ice tee on a hot day, or a delicious piece of cake right after lunch, mmmm it really makes the day.

Losey and Pinter do it again. A sharp critique of the British class system, this time through the eyes of a lovelorn adolescent. The commentary, mainly on forbidden love and burgeoning desire, isn't original but it's still meaningful and effective. Losey's direction is captivating, especially his use of sound.
