The action sequences (and there is loads of 'em) in this action packed Korean tribute to the classic spaghetti western are all well executed, with the ridiculously over the top 20-minute chase scene towards the end being particularly memorable. Kang-ho Song delivers a very amusing performance and the film manages to entertain throughout it's entire 130 minutes which is pretty good for a western (eastern?) which doesn't exactly break new ground plot- and character-wise.

Cinema craft operating at such sublime highs of both technical virtuosity and sheer enjoyment, that I'm left with very little words to describe my feelings towards it, other than two: "astonished" and "overjoyed".

Very esthetic and that is pretty much all. The movie should last a 3/4th of its current length. Then it would be intense and breathtaking. Way too long and too slow. My friend confirmed that a lot of the jokes were lost in the subtitles :(

An incredibly entertaining movie that has some pretty amazing action scenes and tracking shots. It did a great job mixing in humor without making it a "comedy" persay. Soundtrack was awesome, set pieces were awesome, acting by the three main characters was awesome. In fact, my only real gripe is that "The Good" wasn't nearly as fleshed out as "The Bad" and "The Weird" and his character suffered from it (only slightly).

Remarkable for its set pieces and action editing - tons of great tracking shots here, especially the first and last sequences. The stylized period production design is colorful and fun, and thankfully overwhelms the murky attempt at politics. The plotting's a huge letdown, as is typical of this type of overdone SE Asian madcap comedy, and the film is unfortunately stretched to accommodate it. But the three leads play to type nicely, even if the twist is totally unnecessary and the end's a dud.

Ji-woon Kim has really proven himself as one of the best Asian directors of recent times. "I Saw the Devil" and "The Good, The Bad, The Weird" are just so perfect, albeit in completely different ways, that I'm under the impression that he can do no wrong. Visually and aurally astounding, there's rarely a moment where something huge and spectacular isn't happening on screen. All three main actors nail each of their roles fantastically and convincingly. Simply cannot give enough praise.

This is like watching two different films. The beginning is intriguing, the middle is good for martial arts fans but will bore others, and then the end gets intriguing again. So I can't give it high marks overall, but would still recommend it for those with an open mind and a tolerance for a wide variety of movie styles.

Kim captures much of the spirit of the spaghetti western while not feeling too much like straight homage. The action sequences are elaborately crafted, but unfortunately are often so manically edited that it becomes a hassle to watch. And we usually end up right where we started. It tends to feel like treading water at times. Also, only "Weird" seems to have more than one personality trait. Still, the film is a lot of freewheeling fun, has a few surprises, and doesn't take itself too seriously.

Wonderful action sequences including a 10 minute long chase scene that is raw spectacle at its finest meets a narrative that is all over the place and an extremely weak attempt to copy Leone's masterful ending. Despite the weak narrative, the action and humour were so enjoyable that I found myself smiling, wincing and laughing a lot more than glaring furiously at the plot. It may just be spectacle but it is enjoyable spectacle.

A genuinely fresh action movie. This is more 'Hollywood' than most Korean films, but somehow not any worse for it. The action sequences are astounding, the casting superb. It is intense, violent, funny and pretty epic, which is a fair list of accolades. If you're looking for a Western with a twist, this could be just the ticket. Highly entertaining.

Astoundingly entertaining. The action is awesome, the humor is hilarious, silly without being stupid (something I'm not sure Hollywood has got the hang of yet). Song Kang-ho steals the show, as always. It does seem to drag at times but there are enough good things to compensate.

This film works best as unadulterated spectacle - as the two major chase sequences are some of the most fun I've had in a movie in a while. The music is also fantastic, and the film has some great production design. But entire segments of this movie either seem to have no point or drag on for ages, losing the steam of its better moments: basically, when the film stops to think about its plot (or lack thereof), it falters, which is a shame.
