Dreadful, trashy bodice-ripper posing as pretentious art film is essentially worthless and derisive on every level, with stone-faced Ward and badly miscast Neill (as mustache twirling cad) sinking any chance of the film's success, to say nothing of hammy Vidler in support. At least Brown is reliably solid in the typical bluff he-man role, but even he can't beat a hopelessly sudsy screenplay in which every other line is a (unintentional?) howler.
