Summary: Told in flashback, Depression-era bum Dan McGinty is recruited by the city's political machine to help with vote fraud. His great aptitude for this brings rapid promotion from "the boss," who finally decides he'd be ideal as a new, nominally "reform" mayor; but this candidacy requires marriage. Pleasant, charming directorial debut from Sturges that doesn't really aim for much more. The story skips along at a decent pace and there is some clever dialogue on occasion, mixed in with a few laughs. Donlevy and Angelus make a nice pairing and the romance is light. A perfectly inoffensive little flick.
