horribly boring, not scary and simply uninteresting. i dont even understand how this movie got and funding. nothing in this movie even came close to giving me a scare, in fact most of the "scary" parts were flashbacks to the 1800's of mundane things--like preying before dinner, wake me up when it's over.

This wants to be Shining so bad but ends up as a lame made for TV looking rip off. The alcoholic father is an annoying horror cliche we've seen too often. Hollywood still haven't figured out that replacing suspense and psychological terror with CGI jump scares just doesn't work. Note to producers: If your horror film is going to suck at least get the young hot woman naked as much as possible.

Ha. The haunted house they're referring to is in the town I grew up in. It's a Hollywood movie so you expect them to embellish, but nothing remotely close to this ever happened. That's probably why I can't give this any credit.

For a film of this kind, it was better than I thought it would be. This meaning that it was barely watchable. A decent performance by Virginia Madsen and half the scares were decent. However, the script is so bogged down with unnecissity. You knew that from her first shot that the sole purpose of having a hot teenage girl would either be an underwear or shower scene. And the entire alcoholic father theme had absolutely no bearing on the story whatsoever. She might as well been a single mother.

The other film I walked out of the cinema on, except I had the misfortune of sitting this through to the end. According to Peter Cornwell and co. if you exorcise a house of ghoulies, God will repay you by curing your son of cancer! And this is a true story is it? Fuck all of you involved in this piece of fucking shit. I hope God gives you cancer.

One of the better recent blockbuster horrors, this fell a few inches short of being a good all around horror. The eldest son's storyline is really fascinating and at least semi-original but just wasn't played with enough. Instead of creating a whole movie they created a movie with a mildly interesting plotline and a few completely unrelated scares.

The real failure here is that this was almost a good movie, with the morbid atmosphere of a teen facing his mortality and the familial tension that comes with risking everything on experimental treatment. But the filmmakers set their sights much lower and cram in as many pop up charred corpses as they can fit into a mirror shot. The scares are especially silly since so many of them, in fact the majority come from dream sequences and psychic flashbacks that are too confusing to be scary.

Does somebody actually need to die to make a horror movie work? Well this movie doesn't prove otherwise. Couldn't help but feel completely indifferent about the whole experience at the end. I like how they included the audio clues so we know when we are meant to be scared.

No laziness here. Every1 seems 2 be trying 2 carve something interesting out of the limited materials provided by the haunted house genre: Some decent performances, some creepy images& the script mostly makes sense, providing ample reasons y the family sticks around (except after a scene involving death by shower curtain - ok, maybe it is a little lazy) & even throws in a nice metaphor about stars that dont know they're dead yet, BUT it all feels 2 familiar, sluggish, & worse, never scary.

Little more than the typical haunted house-ghost story, despite being supposedly based on actual events (wasn't the same said about "The Blair Witch Project?"). More creepy than scary, pic is completely unoriginal and its scare tactics rely heavily on standard horror cliches as well as computer-generated special effects. A waste of Madsen's talent, as she sleepwalks through the overwrought script.
