Solid western about a family group of Confederate soldiers who refused to surrender at the end of the civil war. They massacre and rob a Yankee convoy and head back towards home with a coffin full of cash (to fund a rebuilding of the Confederate army), trying to avoid Yankee soldiers, bandits and Indians while fighting their own suspicions of each other the whole way. Plenty to enjoy here with some real tension, interesting twists, great performances, and lots of brawls and shootouts.

This is a story about some Confederate soldiers, who call themselves the Hellbenders (think Flying Hellfish), and steal a convoy of money with which they hope to revive the Civil War. I really liked this one, because the story was original and well written and the ending caught me by surprise, which isn't hard to do admittedly (will Nemo escape? will his father find him in time? I just don't know. I just don't know). I don't own it yet, but its definitely a contender for my collection.

A notable step up from Corbucci's westerns of just a year before. More interesting, more sophisticated, more realistic. Later he got even better - his growth as a filmmaker was dazzlingly rapid during the late sixties.
