I don't really know how to explain The Holy Mountain in terms of how I liked it because I have no idea what I liked I just know that I liked it. It's chalk-full of bizarre sacrilegious imagery that is preposterous but also mesmerizing. The Holy Mountain is one of the most vivid, disturbing films I've ever come across but even in the most uncomfortable scenes I wanted to keep watching. It's incredibly imaginative and stunning from start to finish.

Unlike any other movie that I've seen. What it lacks in subtlety, it makes up for with incredibly bold and imaginative visuals.

The imagery is great and the film is very funny at times, but it's a little too directionless to be truly great. It feels more like a series of perfomance art pieces strung together than a movie.

Rather than try and construct meaningful sentences to describe my feelings of this film, I'm just going to list some adjectives that I feel describe it: Absurd, imaginative, hilarious, disturbing, pretentious, silly, nonsensical, confounding, gorgeous, unforgettable.

Bizarre for the sake of bizarre and healthily self-aware. Art film has never been trippier, less subtle, or just so much fun. Worth watching multiple times: "This is my favorite scene--oh no wait, THIS is--oh shit, I forgot about that part."

Brilliant and stunning visuals, which really help to suck you into the film. I certainly don't understand all of it (although a lot of it is quite obvious and unsubtle), but that didn't get in the way of me enjoying watching it. A bold, unique vision.

At first I thought it needed to be a few hours longer, but then at the end I realized that Jodorowsky was running out of ideas. "Rub your clitoris against the mountain!"?? Despite a few scenes that I would consider severely flawed in a campy sort of way, this film is still a visual masterpiece. It is an ascension (or rather a descent) into a candid reality. It's like Fellini's Satyricon only ritualized and fitted into something of an epic.

As with El Topo, the last act is kinda weak, but the first two acts are so good it's almost irrelevant. I would prefer it if he did the opposite though; slow builds to head-fucking insanity in the ending are always the best kinds of movies.

Much praised for it's colorful and bizarre imagery, the overall meaning of it all seems to be to find some sort of existential core that's not corrupted by the ideas and pressures society lays upon us, be it religion, the need for social acceptance or the consumerist way of life. By no means subtle, but it hits some nails on the head, and does it in a imaginative and funny way. In my opinion a lot better than El Topo.
