(2nd viewing) 3 women on the brink of despair, too bad Stephen Daldry bored me to sleep with his misguided direction. Performances aside, there's nothing to recommend. A missed opportunity.

Pretentious. A lot of talent wasted by Daldry, an extremely poor director. Nicole Kidman thinks she is good in this because she's got this nifty false nose.

I wanted to care, but I didn't. However, Ed Harris' character was captivating. "No matter what you start with, it always ends up as less." It's a very truthful sentiment.

One of the few slow, quiet movies I like. The characters and their lives are so interesting and the actresses so dimensional that all you want to do is watch them think and make drastic decisions about their lives.

Deft, engrossing film built around the suicide of Virginia Woolf and the themes of her novel _Mrs Dalloway_, which connects with two other women: one is an unhappy housewife in the 50s, the other a woman caring for a former lover, a homosexual poet dying of AIDS. It is a deeply affecting account of the choices people make in their lives and the consequences.

With astonishing performances by Streep, Moore, Harris et al, this dark tale of lost dreams is balls-out. One day from 3 women's lives. Virginia, drowned by her uneventful country life. Laura, a pregnant wife and mother with some sexual issues. Clarisa Dalloway, who's taking care of her gay ex who suffers from AIDS, while she's lesbian and mother of a child. This is deeply emotional, with an excellent score and some killer scenes which will make you blur. The last Ed Harris scene - excellent.

A moving and intelligent drama that benefits greatly from the exceptional performances of an all-star cast: Streep, Moore, Harris and Kidman are all in top form. The shifts between the timelines are handled perfectly by director Daldry and a highly emotional script triggers off some truly heart-wrenching moments. My only complaint is the ending -the whole film feels like a long build-up and I expected it to finish with a bang, but the final act felt kind of flat. Worth-seeing nevertheless.
