Sam Neill always seems to be tracking animals.

Dafoe's simmering performance carries uneven drama, which works best when it shows Dafoe's struggles against the elements (set against breathtaking picturesque Tasmanian backdrop). Less successful are the simplistic portrayals of other locals (including a surprisingly dull Neill), though O'Connor is typically lovely; and an awkward attempt to shoehorn in material about the Tassie environmental movement (likely to leave non-locals scratching their heads).

Willem Dafoe is good as always, one of the greatest faces in film. Some nice scenery too, and a decent if pretty unspectacular film overall.

A little too man-vs-nature, man-vs-self, self=tiger at points, but Dafoe proves to be a great actor. Also, extremely well shot - beautiful scenery.

Dafoe: solid. The scenery: breathtaking. The last half hour: intense and effective. The rest of it: kind of unmemorable.
