The cast playing roles both inside and outside the fantasy sequences is a good conceit possibly inspired by the director's work in theater. Steiger is good as long as he keeps his shirt on. Some nifty sets and campy costumes, but the film is often dull and quaint, two things Ray Bradbury's work has never been.

Not exactly a faithful adaptation of the book, but intriguing in its own right. There's a strange mood to the whole thing, and the enigmatic ending is a bit frustrating but I think it's fitting. The sequences involving the stories from the illustrations are kind of cheesy and dated in appearance, but they work well enough within the confines of the story. Recommended for the great performance from Steiger and for the unusual concept.
