Summary: The Inner Eye is the second of Satyajit Ray's four great documentaries and tells you about the life and art of Binode Behari Mukherjee (1904-1980). Mukherjee was one of the most admired renaissance painters of Bengal. Trained by the great Nandalal Bose during his early years in Santiniketan (Rabindranath Tagore's university for the liberal arts), Benode Behari painted profusely. (Karagarga)

Not especially outstanding but very interesting nonetheless. Mukherjee's art is beautiful and his story probably deserves more than 20 minutes.

Another Ray documentary short about a notable Indian figure. In this case, Binode Behari Mukherjee, a master artist despite his failing vision. I found this to be the most compelling of Ray's docs, with a subject whose work I could relate to far more than Tagore or Balaswaraswati. Mukherjee's art is beautiful, even after he went completely blind. And Ray's score is wonderful, as always.
