Excellent extension from social to political and back again through allegory. There's a persistent sense of unease as we watch Ludvik, disillusioned yet trapped; his hurt and betrayal manifesting in apathy and destruction. It's a quietly nihilistic confront to Communism, if not an uncomfortable look into the zeitgeist mirror.
