a few funny parts, mostly well done. i dont actually understand why that dream sequence belonged in this movie, it was ok anyway, it just didnt fit the movie. i like the gags that chaplin did, but there simply werent enough of them.

The dramedy genre gets off to a nice start. Begins with some great comedy, and becomes quite adorable and touching as it goes on. The ending's a bit weak but other than that it's fun and worth a shot.

A dream sequence arrives late during The Kid's central conflict (the likely inability to retain ownership of an orphaned child) to give whimsical emphasis of Chaplin's sense of purgatory, a segment encapsulating the film's success at infusing the man's situational shtick with a multitude of dramatic concerns - hilarity, charm, pathos, tragedy, fantasy - that elevate it above his prior work. Deeper than Chaplin's other stuff, The Kid is also joyously great.

Hands down the BEST Chaplin film.

Chaplin is awesome

Masterfully crafted to play with your emotions, sad at one stage, heartwarming at another and then a lot of comedy gets thrown in also. Chaplin as the tramp is at his usual best yet its the child actor Coogan who is sensational. Dream sequence was a definite high point and a lot is accomplished in the 50 minute running time.

I find Chaplin to be very hit or miss, but when he's on, the cinematic world he inhabits is one of pure, unaffected, child-like MAGIC.

A bit more serious Chaplin. Works somewhat well since he's never been funny. Coogan is probably one of the best child actors of the silent era.

A very touching film. It’s much less concerned with slapstick comedy (though there’s still plenty of that) and has a real emotional heart to it. The little boy playing the kid was cute, charming and could sell emotion well. Chaplin was his usual brilliant self, of course. An easily enjoyable film.

Both leading characters are amazing and have a great chemistry that is portrayed without speech, truly great way to tell a remarkable story.
