I think I missed something here. I don't hate the film, the cast is great but I didn't find it funny at all. Sure it's light, but that doesn't make it a comedy. Also predictable.

An austere film that deserves the praises it has received for no particular reason apart from being simple, touching and articulate. The kids are alright and Ruffalo is decent, although kind of weird, so most of the weight is carried by the Mums: Bening and Moore, who add yet another monumental performance in their righteously distinguished careers.

I really like the writing here, the way Chodolenko satirizes the new age style of the lesbian couple, showing their language filled with cliche and their actions with small hypocrisies, and yet still gives Bening and Moore enough material to create characters who are likable and admirable. Perhaps even better is Mark Ruffalo, his vague, semi-intelligent, meandering performance pitch perfect for this aging West Coast Peter Pan.

Enjoyable film with solid performances from actors you'd expect solid performances from. In short, it would be Annette gain if Moore films like this were made - Mark my words.

It's strange that the distinctly average Ruffalo & Bening got so much praise for this film, when Moore out acts them in every scene. It's also strange that this bunch of generally unlikable, dull and irritating characters are used reguarly as an example by the media of the social trials of same-sex relationships? When in reality this film portrays nothing positive about human relationships at all. Aside from that the plot is a shallow, predictable mess, and the writing is nothing special either.

Some interesting performances by Ruffalo and Benning are really the only reason to see this jumbled mess. Both are given tedious, one dimensional roles and yet they still manage to go somewhere with them. Ruffalo, in particular, portraying the second biggest enemy in America (the single man) manages to lend the proceedings some charm, but the raging pro-family subtext becomes nauseating very quickly.

Stellar performances and an often very honest script (think what Diablo Cody wants to do) compensate for the wholly uninteresting, unambitious aesthetic choices.

A promising premise, but the characters are annoying, much of the humour falls flat (it has its moments though) and even though it's fairly dramatically engaging I was uneasy with film's oddly conservative presentation of lesbianism (still it counts as progress that Hollywood tries to give positive portrayals), and I thought the film abandoned the most interesting subject for it to explore (the father as an, admittedly imperfect, male role model) just because exploring it would be challenging.

Simple, honest, funny and touching, "The Kids Are All Right" benefits from a heartfelt script and some wonderful acting courtesy of Moore, Ruffalo, Bening, Wasikowska and Hutcherson, who all inhabit their realistic characters with admirable naturalness. Although the situations are certainly familiar and often sitcomlike, the weight of the performances and the sincerity of the screenplay, both by equal turns hilarious and heart-breaking, make this a lovely film.

i enjoyed it a lot, although the ending left me dissatisfied. it's very rushed, the mark ruffalo character is easily deemed responsible and discarded. after a moment of silence the lesbians decide everything is "all right" again and the movie ends. this was unexpected, as a lot of work goes into depicting the sperm-donor as an okay guy with good intentions, if a bit lewd. yet he didn't exactly rape anyone, it was consensual sex that ruined everything. a great movie nonetheless.

Another Indie trying to impress by dealing with a 'controversial subject' - this time deconstructing gay marriage. Apparently, America acknowledges two types of gay people: Serious and hippie, and one of them isn't JUST gay (because no one really is, right?). The Indie formula ensures that too little drama is delivered too late, and it's depressing to see that THIS is how far we've gotten on the subject matter in 2010. But. There's one funny cut in there, and Bening is a fucking trooper.

The drama is weak, the comedy is lacklustre and awkward, the plot is achingly predictable and the moral ('LESBIANS are just like everyone else. LESBIANS. Did we mention they're LESBIANS? Stop looking at them like they're LESBIANS or something. Jeez.') is too preachy for words. Still, its biggest crime is that, despite its indie-cred smugness, it ignores one simple fact: if Bening's character was male, no one would be giving this movie the time of day, let alone a waste of an Oscar nomination.

Wonderful, flawless comedy-drama which navigates tricky emotional terrain in an unexpectedly fresh and original way. Aided by five equally brave and wonderous principal performers, and a screenplay which manages to be equal parts hilariously funny and warm and touching, while providing a sprawling, untidy view of complicated lives being lived. Bening and Moore make a very believable and lovable long-term couple.

A movie about an "alternative" family, with the theme of lesbian parenthood engaged openly and frankly, and in this sense it is somewhat off the path. But it's not a film that pushes out against normative boundaries, quite the contrary: it strives to tame, normalize and centralize its subjects, to show that the kids, and the three parents, are indeed "all right", and that even their hardships are pretty "straight" stuff. It's a believable and serviceable lighthearted drama, but nothing special.

A decent movie, it speaks for itself about a lot of subjects, like the marriage, the bissexual and gay stuff, the children and how about raising them, affairs, relationship between couples, the work stress and so much else. It is a good movie to watch, not brilliant, it is, how can i say, sensitive. It talks about the routine.

Very good suburban dramatic comedy. Pretty typical of this type of film but with a twist, the parents are lesbians, and that twist is well used. It's integral to some aspects of the film, but never so big that it overshadows the human aspects of the film.

Quite funny, very moving. Not the best script ever, but the performances more than make up for that - Moore, Benning and Ruffalo are all brilliant, especially Moore - I find it strange that she wasn't nominated for an Oscar, but Benning was robbed nevertheless.

A well made movie with excellent performances, but I kinda got the feeling that they weren't sure which way to go: comedy or drama? They ended up with a dramedy (which is fine), but in the end, I just went away more depressed than anything. Again, it;s a good film, but Oscar worthy? Not too sure about that......

Well done drama, except I did not like how American way they did it. We are a gay family and we do everything like a straight family do. And there was edge only for the sake of edge. I expected more because of non controversial theme. Ruffalo was nice, and Bening even better than Moore, though I always put them way around. Actually more I think about it, more I find scenes which did not work.
