I really hope I was supposed to be angry while watching this. Billy Mitchell is a tremendous douche and Twin Galaxies is a cliquish collection of 'spergy, dishonest losers. I can't fathom why Steve Wiebe cared so much about dealing with these people considering how unethical they are and how they deliberately ostracized him. I'm having trouble reviewing this as a film because I'm just so pissed off at the men featured in it. Maybe that's effective/manipulative filmmaking?

Funny, but you can never take docs like this at face value, so kind of a waste of time in a way.

Plenty can be made fun of here. A guy who would rather play one video game over and over again then work or play with his kids. A guy who acts like a celebrity (Mitchell) because of a high score in Kong (and people buying into it). The line that got me thinking was from a random arcade fanatics, "Hey I don't drink. I don't smoke or do drugs. I just play video games". I realized he's right and good for him for having a healthy outlet, and that this doc had actually taught me something.

Absolute truth in question, we can only engage this along lines of the narrative it presents, which is essentially an underdog triumph and the comeuppance of a bully. The portrayal of Wiebe is touching; socially uneasy but a genuinely good guy, he wrestles with balancing his family life and obsessive behavior. The Redmond sections of the film are the most powerful pieces here. Mitchell is a different story, but there's a slant here, and picking on nerds, even bully nerds, feels strange to me.

Whether the story is entirely true or not impacts the film very little, its the little guy versus the King that pulls you in. Excellent and compelling documentary.

Though this is a great, compelling film in its own right, it also has the distinction of being the only documentary that I'd like to see dramatized into a feature film. Never in my life have I witnessed a human being who resembled a Ben Stiller villain as thoroughly as Billy Mitchell; clearly this is the man Stiller was born to play. Cast Nathan Fillion as underdog science teacher, and all around nice guy, Steve Wiebe and I'd pay ten bucks to see to watch this story unfold all over again.

The funny thing about documentaries is sometimes you wind up with villains on par with the best scripted features. Granted, they usually come off more evil and less than douchey than Billy Mitchell, Brian Kuh, & Roy Shildt. The narrative is so engrossing, it's easy to forget you're watching a documentary.

This is not a real documentary.Events and situations in the film have been manipulated to fit the filmmaker's vision. That being said I did find this Pseudo-Documentary very entertaining and it did shed some light on this sub-culture.I just wish the filmmaker's would have stuck to a more balanced approach.

Everyone loves a winner, right? I can't speak for the accuracy, but the story of Mike vs. Billy is rendered smartly and compellingly with classic devices. For instance, Billy's ace-in-the-hole for weaseling out of the first contest is introduced before Mike even begins, and the result is great suspense as we await Mike's reaction as we watch him toil. I came in with low expectations, but the vitriol I've heard against this must've been meant for Billy Mitchell.

Proving that a documentary can create characters you can root for and have little twists that make it both exciting and enjoyable, as much as any fictional sports underdog movie. Is it slightly biased in Wiebe's favor? Probably, but this is as much of his story as it is a historical record, and it's that much more satisfying because of it.

The whole thing is like a real game of Donkey Kong: Steve keeps reaching his Princess Peach: the high score, but Billy Mitchell, like Donkey Kong, keeps snatching the Princess away once he reaches the top. Maybe a bit overly manipulative, but Mitchell's obvious double-standard (even without editing) probably deserves it.

Watching Billy fall from grace with his 'disciples' as nice guy Steve just keeps on playing is a strangely satisfying experience. A very well-made documentary with some real (both awesome and actual) characters. P.S: I've never made it past level 2 :(

Definitely one of the best documentaries I've seen in a while, maybe ever. Obviously the film uses editing to create a somewhat bias, but that's really the point. It's an underdog story and you live and die with every minute of it. I can't remember a time I was so enthralled in something this superfluous.

The first achievement of this film is to actually portray the rivalrly and the people around it without mocking any of them or their nerd hobby. We instead are faced with the story of an average joe, an underdog in his endless fight against an undisputed king of arcade who has an entire institution on his side and is pretty much an asshole. And while I'm not sure that's how the story really goes, it makes up to an awesome story and a great documentary.

a bit overrated. not very informative, really biased, and a bit boring. seemed more like an advertisement for twin galaxies than anything. all the people interviewed are sad losers, but not in a remarkable way. also i'm very glad competitive gaming is now about head-to-head games rather than stupid numbers. ugh.
