Vastly superior to the original.

Knows where to draw the line between visceral vengeance and the genuinely painful to watch

Not exactly thrilling or scary. More cringe-worthy because of its uncomfortable rape scene and its seemingly pointless plot.

A better than expected remake...its brutal like the original...but unlike the original it glamourizes torture, rape and murder...whereas the original you felt for the family, this time you see the family as rich snobs who would watch you bleed to death and giggle...its bloody and unforgiving...

This is a quality horror film. It turns the formula inside out, and its only flaw is an unnecessarily long rap scene. It could've conveyed the same point with only half of the screen time. Other than that, Craven's original formula is still intact and this will keep viewers engaged from start to finish.

alot of good fighting and last part of the movie was pretty crazy

One of the better modern thriller/horror/slasher films. Was pleasantly surprising. If you're into the modern horror/thriller, this is certainly a must see, though if you're not a fan of this genre, the film is still worth a rent.

I so rarely get to say this but I genuinely liked this re-make stayed true to the original a bit more effort with the story,Not as gory AS I would have liked but decent all in all pretty good

Really enjoyed this version of the story--although the original IS a classic. Brutal, suspenseful and gory remake. The bad guy is so deserving of his punishment! Highly recommended!

The rape scene was nauseating, thankfully it finished on a better note.

BORING!

It was, surprisingly, very good. A bit too explicit for my taste, but you can't fault that given that the movie is playing to your vengeful side. The music choices were brilliant and they put in a lot of effort into the cinematography too. Last part was a bit of a drag, but all in all it is a good horror movie. Because real life psychos are way freakier than any supernatural being, any day any time.

Some seriously sloppy storytelling hidden under a blanket of decent direction and above-average acting. A lot of subplots are left abandoned, and you never get the feeling that the parents are devastated enough to be overtaken with feelings of revenge...which is why the final scene before the credits seemed so out of place. It has nothing to do with the instrument used.

This is a comedy, right? I mean, that guys head blew up inside an open microwave in a matter of seconds. It's funny! Works about as well as the ISoYG remake. Works for the first half, insufferable for the rest.

The exploitation aspect of the original is what made it the sensation it became. There really wasn't a lot else to it. Complaining that this film is lacking is missing the point of why it was made.

This is a good story....Characters and acting was good....but something is not enought... like the movie is not finished !

I cannot bear all the "its not as good as the original" pomposity in film reviews .. the question is "was this a good FILM?" IMO, Yes ... tense, menacing, horrific, well acted, good action scenes, decent script and well filmed, particularly the swimming scenes. Was the rape scene difficult to watch? Of course it was, it was a rape scene for Gods sake!. This film is such a refreshing change in not ending with everyone smiling, despite everything that befalls them - its horrible, but SO satisfying

I can't rank it higher than Craven's version; that would just feel like blasphemy, but this was a great remake in every aspect. I have to add that Garret Dillahunt is great in pretty much everything, though.

Was thinking about leaving the theater during the rape scene because it was so awful to witness, but I think the parents gave those bastards the best revenge that they could have possibly received (not that any revenge could ever give the girl back what she lost.) Her friend was stupid, but didn't deserve what happened to her either. I still don't know how she could have ended up on her parents doorstep after all of that+the shot in the back, but I'm glad she did.

Intensely horrific and awful to watch. I enjoy the terrible that is well done and this is it.

Surprisingly solid remake albeit less edgy and way less shocking than the original. Points for flashes of great cinematography - especially shifts in focus and depth staging - that rise above the average horror movie.
