Simple, but enjoyable. See it for Chevalier's timing.

Lupino Lane & Lillian Roth deliver some fantastic moments in their supporting parts. The rest is damn fine, too, and hardly showing much age for this rocky period in films. I love me some Lubitsch.

The leads I don't like so much, though they are entertaining, but the supporting cast is great, the story is solid, if slight, and the humour is wonderful.

Lubitsch brings class and opulence to a film about little more than sex. Most of the song and dance numbers are a little rough around the edges, but all of them are very charming. Jeanette MacDonald's singing voice isn't so hot but she steals all of her spoken dialogue scenes with Chevalier, I think.

This is a very early talkie, and it shows, but Chevalier and MacDonald are great together, and the supporting work by Pallette, Lane and Roth is solid. Sure, it's silly . . . but so what?

Sometimes seems a bit slight, but overall very enjoyable with some great acting from Maurice Chevalier and Jeanette MacDonald.

Lubitsch's first sound film is understandably weak in a few areas. Most of the songs aren't that hot and the pacing is a trifle slow. And I hate the way MacDonald sings. But she and Chevalier have great chemistry here, and I can watch Chevalier in anything and be entertained. There's some great gags here, like the callback to the "punishment" scene and the reversal of the "bored housewife" scenario. Also some dynamite moments between Lupino Lane and Lillian Roth as the comic relief/Greek chorus.
