Summary: John Hamilton leaves a comfortable New York job to take up as an artist in a quiet Connecticut town. His dipso wife hates the life and falsely makes him out to be selfish, unsuccessful, and, worst, someone who hits her. When she suddenly disappears suspicion falls on him and the townsfolk take the law into their own hands. Hamilton finds his only allies are the local children he has befriended. (imdb)

Michael Curtiz would be dead in three years and Alan Ladd in five, and the contribution of both seems a little halfhearted and sad in this weird third-rate noir that tries to transform itself into a cute "kids save the day" film halfway through. The only good things about it are the bad girl (Carolyn Jones alternating between sexiness and hysteria and making them both work) and the good girl (played by pretty, sweet Diane Brewster, best known as Theodore's teacher on "Leave it to Beaver.")
