All said and done, even if the next two installments in the trilogy was a wankfest of empty special effects, the original remains pretty good. It has some plotholes, sure, but the concept had instant appeal and the gnostic themes hadn't been done in this way untill then. It will remain genre-defining, for good or bad.

Neo, a down-on-his-luck computer salesman, takes a red pill and gets digitized into the interweb where he learns about life, love and the true meaning of happiness. Basically the story of Christ told for the Nintendo generation.

This is a pretty good film. I am not into the trilogy like some, but I found it to be pretty action packed. I liked it.

Although the horrible sequels have since sapped my love for this original, this was a spectacular movie-going experiences and I wore out the DVD when I first got it.

The brilliant fighting setpieces alone make this worthwhile viewing for any sci-fi/action genre fan. Added to that is an intriguing plotline that questions one's concept of reality, plus the well-cast Laurence Fishburne and Hugo Weaving (and the less-talented-but-still-decent Keanu Reeves). Suspend your disbelief and enjoy some quality kung-fu action!

The plot and acting performances is not the best in this movie but it has the best action scenes of all times. Actually, if the rest of this movie was as perfect as the action, it would blow the 1-100 bar. However, as it does not do that, it deserves nothing more than 90 in my opinion. Definitively a must see!

Its been a decade since this hit the big screen and it still stands out from the countless action films it influenced. Why? In part because of its commitment to being more that a special effects "proof of concept" with the mindscrew scifi plot and slow pacing in the first act that allows story to unfold naturally and gives time for the now iconic characters to become memorable.
