I love von Stroheim's direction and his willingness to let his characters be unsympathetic. He's willing to be cynical while having of sense of humour about it, which makes this fun even with the somewhat overlong running time. There's interesting class and gender commentary although at times it does feel like there's a bit too much of a "rich people problems" core.
