Ugh. Streisand. Ugh.

Another cinderella story.

Director-producer-star Streisand's film has its moments, mostly thanks to a touching and funny performance from Bacall (as Babs' mother), and amusing cameo by Segal, but film itself is a mild ordeal. Streisand is far too old to be believable as the lead, and like all of her directorial efforts, the star is unable to concede to the director, resulting in an indulgent Barbra performance, and a final "moral" which ends up contradictory and muddled. Bridges is also surprisingly dull as second lead.

I found my old review of this filck and I liked it somehow. Jeff Bridges made lame part, but if the story is about a married couple who decided not to have sex on each other, it is a fine idea to explore. The end was of course the usual.

This film is about self-image, companionship, friendship, sexless love, and sex, all presented with comedy. It has quite a bit of my kind of humor, and a happy ending, both of which are necessary for this old curmudgeon to enjoy a movie time after time. Both Jeff Bridges and Barbra Streisand did an excellent job, as did the other actors. I don't like Streisand personally, but in a movie, I find her to be a good performer, a good director, and attractive (Ooh, those sexy lips).
