Though the Nazi characters, including the two older sons of the Roth family, are rather one dimensional and the idea that women can't possibly do politics is very annoying to me. The story in this film of a family torn apart by the Nazi power regime and a romance that blossoms in spite of it is very emotionally powerful. The acting is off the charts, especially the seemingly always great Stewart and Sullavan in the two lead roles. The script is mature, even though the propoganda is obvious.

Good anti-Nazi film --well-acted and conveys the terror one would feel when the world around you is going crazy. It's not the definitive film on the rise of Nazism, but it carves out its own space well.
