charming, but an undersell. the muppets were a big deal when they came out and they left a lasting legacy on popular culture. --& continue to with Sesame Street. the problem is this film ignores the track record and grapples with trying to appeal to a new younger, hipper audience. but muppets are hip to begin with, everybody knows that. now if only someone could tell Henson's old puppeteer cronies and the studio execs. At least the comedians know it (Black, Segal, Galifianakis, Silverman, etc)

Okay not a muppet fan, but this was actually a really charming little treat, even despite a very down by the numbers story. Even made me laugh out loud on a couple of occasions...

A complete mess. A mixture of poor songs and an over reliance on pop culture references wrapped in a terrible attempt at story (which for the most part gets forgotten about for large chunks of the film). The film does manage some laughs and charm when the original Muppets manage to shine through, it's just unfortunate that the film keeps trying to tell them that no longer are they not relevant but apparently have not existed since the Muppet Show ended.

For the first time since they sizzled in School of Rock, Jack Black and Sarah Silverman are back together again in this timeless story of a dreamy-eyed Hollywood diner waitress and a down-on-his-luck movie star finding love in the most unlikely of places. Oh, and there were some muppets, as well.

They sing, they dance, and then they sing some more. Muppets hold no nostalgic value for me, I haven't seen TV show or any previous movie. This movie doesn't seem to have much 'Jim Henson' in it. Self-reflective humour felt kind of out of place to me - why laugh at clichés and still go by them? Emily Blunt is such a darling, but that's hardly news... Ok entertainment for the times when you had one too many joint.

One of the most singularly great family films I have ever seen in my life. A smile on my face for 120 minutes - I've never before laughed so much watching a film. Pure joy, you can plainly see how much Segel enjoyed doing this in both the writing and his acting. Amy Adams and Chris Cooper are also perfectly cast. Great tunes, great villain, pitch-perfect comedy. Truly for everyone. Best feel-good film of all time? I can easily sum my opinion up in one word: Lovely. Thank you, Jason!

In a time when beloved childhood memories are being raped by Hollywood (The Smurfs, Alvin & The Chipmunks, etc.) it's so refreshing to see a film such as "The Muppets" that not only successfully captures that original spirit, whilst also doing its own thing, but does so in such a way that you can tell the people involved genuinely care about the title characters. It's hilarious, it's witty, it's charming, it's catchy, what more could you want from a family film? The Toy Story short is fantastic.

Man, I went into this with some high expectations. I found myself pretty uncomfortable for chunks of the film. Cringe-worthy, even. Something about Amy Adams made me want to hide. I'm not sure if it's how she was written or how she chose to play it, but it was uncomfortable. Furthermore, with the lack of a larger story besides the old "we're getting the band back together" cliche, no Muppet character is given the chance to shine. Walter has an arc, but he's the only one.

I love the Muppets, so why didn't I love this movie more? Maybe it was expectations & idealized memories from my childhood. Mostly, its because I think this movie is selfish on behalf of the filmmakers. How can you call this movie The Muppets when they are marginalized so that Jason Segel, Amy Adams, & a new character named Walter can take center stage? The script is fun and the songs are charming and catchy. The problem is that the script & songs should have benefited the title characters.

Like the Muppet Movie and The Muppet Christmas Carol before it, The Muppets is deliciously meta and doesn't even talk down to the audience of children Walt Disney Studios wants you to think this film is aimed at. One of the best musicals in a LONG time, so refreshing.

A charming and liberating old-fashioned delight that will have you smiling and embracing even the most silly parts from start to finish. it's absolutely shameless nostalgia - the whole thing basically exists so Jason Segel and his friends can go "Remember when you were a kid and watched the Muppet Show? Wasn't that great?" But that said, it was fun, it played around a lot with the classic Blues Brothers/Underdog Wins plot, and it had chickens singing Cee-Lo Green's "Cluck You".

This was so much goddamn fun. Okay, so it's fairly light and doesn't always live up to its own momentum, but it's hilarious all the way through and everyone is clearly enjoying themselves, none more so than Segel, whose love for the puppets shines through. I loved how the thematic relevance really helped to give the movie emotional impact. The songs were all fantastic, and reminded me of Conchords in all the right ways. The best pure family film to come out in I don't even know how long.

A whole lot of fun. Admittedly it gets a bit too self-aware at times for my liking but thankfully most of the time it manages to be just right. Jason Segel and Amy Adams make for two great leads and, much like the show itself, the movie itself is relatively safe in it's humour allowing all age groups to really enjoy it. Definitely something you can take your kids too and enjoy yourself.
