I'm sure someone has written a review saying "important/innovative for its time, introduced the concept of crime films/made by legendary pioneer DW Griffith, blah blah blah". It's largely true, but let's stop pretending these primitive sleeping pills are even remotely sufferable nowadays, okay? And it gets -10 points for one of the most idiotic endings in movie history; beating a man unconscious, stealing his money, and trying to rape his wife was a "good turn"? Seriously?

An intriguing introduction and an exhilarating climax unfortunately feel like bookends, buttressing an absolutely glacial second act.

I know it's sacrilegious to say this about a D.W. Griffith film, but this is quite dull really
