It's not a movie I would want to sit through one more time, but OK as a first watch. It's a rags-to-riches story similar to the ones you've probably seen before, but the backdrop of Trinidad gives it a fresh feel. My NTSC R1 DVD had no subtitles on it, and really had me fumbling to understand the very thick and weird Trinidadian accent and their grammar-less English. By the time I got the hang of it, it was almost the middle of the movie, and perhaps have clouded my judgment of the movie.
