Based on a true story worthy of attention. I was taken aback by the style in which this film is made, which is ahead of its time or at least quite refreshing for 1990. With its breakneck editing, people talking to the camera, intercuts sidestepping out of the plot to relate mood, and other unusual narrative devices, it actually reminded me of loathesome 00's european romcoms like Amelie, but somehow never gratuitous. The Nasty Girl is a rivetting film, bold both in substance and in form.

Tells a very interesting story dealing with Germany's relationship to its past, but all the stylistic flair is unnecessary and distracts from what's going on. Some fun scenes at the beginning give way to more boring and slower ones later on.

Lots of funny growing-up-type-stuff and fourth wall breaking. There are essentially two parts to this, with the protagonist as a precocious student and then as an adult, though it is physically narrated by the latter throughout. I thought it sort of lost its way near the end, maybe, but overall it was engaging.

Good after it's over, not much keeping you going during the film though.
