Summary: A sweeping love story told by a man (Garner) reading from his faded notebook to a woman in a nursing home (Rowlands), The Notebook follows the lives of two North Carolina teens from very different worlds who spend one indelible summer together before they are separated, first by her parents and then by WWII. (New Line Productions)
Overplays the god and miracle thing and there isn't really much original about this story.
Still despite these things I could not help myself not to fall in love with these characters, even some I initially thought that I hated, which is no small feat.
Having read the book first, I was extremely excited to find out that this was being produced. The story was simple enough that a direct translation to the screen could be done without losing anything essential to the love story. Unfortunately, they totally botched this movie up, dramatically changing the characters while keeping only some of the superficial storyline. I can't think of another movie that has disappointed me more. Read the book, and avoid the movie...
My girlfriend really loved it, but this really isn't a story for me. The acting is good, the story is good, it's romantic, nobody will deny that, but it just doesn't appeal to me.. But hey, I've seen worse chick flicks, and this one really isn't that bad. It's a good movie, but just not my kind of films..
Holy crap, is this strange. This is one the chickiest chick flicks you will ever see, and it is actually good. If you watch this with your woman, she will think you are awesome and you will actually enjoy the movie. Both lead actors are very good in this movie.
