All the expected touches, including coffins, not-dead corpses, mutilations, etc., are present for fans of this genre.

Nastily effective horror film with a frail story but good background detail.

Outlandish but entertaining camp/horror fest, with both Price and Lee in great form, genially hamming it up as befits the situation. The film itself shows a good eye for atmosphere, and even builds some genuine dread from time to time. Never rises above its genre, but a lot of fun on its own terms.

Coffins, blood, and live corpses fill drawn-out and lifeless adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe story.

Modest addition to AIP's Poe cycle. Originally to be directed by Michael Reeves (who committed suicide shortly before the start of production), this has a lot of diverse elements that never jell and wastes both Price and Lee (who share only a single scene). The shock surprise ending, though, is genuinely jolting.

Not very good. Price's queer English accent is laughable and the production is terrible, it's only Christopher Lee's average performance that saves this from being outright terrible.
