I thought that the relationship between portman and her stepson was awkward, and unnatural. Portman did an excellent job playing the role of a grieving mother, there were multiple times that I really felt her emotion, but without her, the film would have been nothing.

Natalie Portman and Lisa Kudrow deliver fine performances in The Other Woman, but they're muted by Don Roos' clumsy direction and cluttered, melodramatic script.

This film is good at hiding its crushing secret but it's not revealed at an opportune moment. I don't think there would have been an opportune moment as this film is devoid of drama. The only one acting at a believable pitch is Lisa Kudrow. Portman breaks down a couple times on cue but otherwise I got never got a sense that she belonged in this character. Co-star Lauren Ambrose probably should have gotten the lead on this; then I might have felt something. The retitling is also unfortunate.

Right now, Portman commands the cineplexes as surrogate for misguided, self-pitying filmmakers.

The Other Woman isn't a terrible film, but it's undone by the fact that it tries to cram far too much into its runtime. There's too much going on for us to actually absorb anything from the multitude of subplots. The drama isn't bad, and it was nice to see an annoying child in a movie actually treated that way by the characters, but the film felt too rushed by the end. Impulsive and often too-sad-for-their-own-good characters ultimately left the film feeling too cold to warrant a watch.

"As good as it is at times, The Other Woman never nears greatness; it lacks the mettle and focus to push beyond well-groomed melodrama." - Jesse Cataldo
