Nice. It tries to be really smart using mathematics to analyze everything. In the end, it leaves things open. Well, it's nice to Wood and Hurt.

A mediocre murder mystery pulled down by lousy dialog and worse directing. A particular nuisance is the mathematical/logical/"intellectual" riddles that make the likes of Da Vinci Code seem high browed. Only the location scouter should be applauded on this movie...

The Scooby Doo ending requires nearly ten minutes of explanation and negates the need to follow the previous 90 minutes. It's also preceded by one character stating, "In life, nobody bothers explaining anything." Well, except in this movie.

Started acceptably, and just got worse and worse as it went on, to the point that we were openly mocking towards the end. I know that movies look more "intelligent" when their promotional materials are covered in math equations, but sometimes it's just not the case.

The mystery itself is extremely involving, but everything else about this movie -- literally everything, from the school-play acting to the frankly terrible script and the piddlycrap subplots that go nowhere and only serve to inflate the film's length -- renders this a waste of time. Despite this, Gorman manages to stand out as by far the worst thing here in his (mercifully brief) role as what I can only assume is supposed to be some sort of genius crackhead. A near-total waste of time.

What an awfully mediocre film. The book was pretty good but this just threw away any development points that could lead to a reasonable thinking of the resolution and simply gave the characters the answers whenever they needed it, scheming complicated crime plots in a matter of seconds. The locations and the ending were kinda nice overall (despite the plotholes and what I have mentioned before) but this is really nothing to look forward to. I loved Gorman as Podorov, though.

Coming across like something a wannabe-hip teacher would show to a class of schoolkids, the overall soap opera quality and gratuitous mathmatical mumbo-jumbo hurl this onto the 'knew I shouldn't have bothered' pile. Becomes almost so-bad-it's-good with two or three (unintentionally) laugh-out-loud moments, and pretty much confirms what I always suspected: Elijah Wood can't act.
