The first half of David Copperfield when he is still a child was really excellent. It seemed like the movie lost its momentum once he was older. Strong performance by Freddie Bartholomew.

Even though I've never cracked the pages of the novel I got that feeling you get when you know chunks have been removed and epic scenes shortened. That being said the film was still very entertaining, and the cast fit their roles well.

The cast and director knew what they were doing... the characters are all unique and captured perfectly; Fields is especially good.
